Globally, and here in Australia, diamonds are graded using a universally recognised system known as the 4C’s:
- Carat Weight – The measurement of a diamond’s weight, which contributes to its size and value.
- Colour – The degree to which a diamond is colourless, with the most valuable stones displaying minimal or no colour.
- Clarity – The presence or absence of natural inclusions or blemishes within the diamond.
- Cut – Arguably the most important factor, cut refers to how well the diamond’s facets interact with light to create brilliance and sparkle.
These criteria work together to determine a diamond’s quality and value – and at MDT DESIGN, we go beyond simply trusting what’s on a certificate. Our in-house diamond graders meticulously inspect and assess every diamond to ensure it meets or exceeds the quality stated on paper.
Our Ethically Sourced Natural Diamonds
At MDT DESIGN, we are committed to ethically sourcing all of our natural diamonds from reputable suppliers who adhere to international best practices and strict conflict-free standards. Whether sourced from Australia or other trusted regions around the world, each diamond we select is chosen not only for its beauty and quality, but also for its ethical provenance. We believe that exceptional craftsmanship should begin with responsible sourcing, ensuring your piece is as meaningful as it is beautiful.
Why We Do Not Stock Lab Grown Diamonds
At MDT DESIGN, we are committed to authenticity, lasting value, and the beauty of natural gemstones. For this reason, we do not sell lab grown diamonds as part of our collection.
While lab grown diamonds may visually resemble natural diamonds, they are man-made and do not possess the rarity or enduring value of their natural counterparts. Their prices continue to fall due to mass production, making them less suitable for significant pieces such as engagement rings or heirloom jewellery.
Natural diamonds, formed over billions of years, hold a unique origin, scarcity, and intrinsic value – qualities that lab grown stones simply cannot replicate. For clients investing in a timeless piece of jewellery, we believe natural, certified diamonds provide the most meaningful long-term worth and sentiment.
That said, we do understand that for some clients, lab grown diamonds may be of interest. In select circumstances, and only when the client is fully educated about the differences, limitations, and long-term considerations, we will consider working with lab grown diamonds to ensure the final piece reflects their personal vision.
