We are MDT DESIGN, a family-owned jewellery studio where tradition, craftsmanship, and modern design come together.

Founded in 1981 by master jeweller and diamond grader Nicholas Theochari, MDT DESIGN has been creating fine jewellery in-house for over four decades. From the beginning, our philosophy has been simple: jewellery should be thoughtfully designed, beautifully made by hand, and built to last a lifetime.

Every piece we create is handmade – not hand-crafted – on site in our Collins Street boutique and workshop in the heart of Melbourne. This means each design is made with intention, precision, and expert skill, using traditional techniques refined through generations of experience. None of our rings are cast or mass produced, and nothing is outsourced, every piece is made under our roof, by our skilled team.

Our jewellery collections include engagement rings, wedding bands, bespoke designs, diamond jewellery, and timeless everyday pieces. Alongside our collections, we offer comprehensive jewellery repair and restoration services, from resizing and stone resetting to complex restorations. All repairs are carried out in-house by qualified jewellers, ensuring your jewellery never leaves our care.

Ethics and Responsibility

Ethics and responsibility are central to everything we do. We source only conflict-free diamonds and sapphires, and all of our gemstones are ethically sourced through trusted suppliers who meet strict international standards. We believe fine jewellery should be created with integrity, not only in how it’s made, but in where it comes from.

MDT DESIGN remains proudly family owned and operated. Nicholas’ children – Kosta, Ellen, and Steven – all work within the business, continuing the family legacy and upholding the standards on which the studio was built.
Kosta is a qualified jeweller and certified diamond grader who manages both the boutique and on-site workshop, overseeing every piece that is created or restored.
